Workplace Bullying

Do you feel as though you’ve been mistreated at work? You are not alone. It has become apparent to me that it is actually quite common. In almost every single workplace I’ve worked, I have experienced some form of bullying. …

Working under a manipulative and a bully of a boss can be an incredibly distressing and a demoralizing experience. One such instance stands out vividly in my memory, during my time at a previous job.

Welcome back! I use to believe that as you go up the corporate ladder, the bullying would not be as profound compared to what I experienced when I was a junior member of the team. However, I was so wrong! What I’ve found is that as you go up the corporate ladder, the bullying still happens but you have less people to talk to about it and you’re less likely to move jobs as the higher positions are often less available. You then find yourself “stuck” and after a certain amount of time being exposed to this type of behaviour, one is bound to have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Romantic Relationships

There is something about workplace relationships and the perceived forbidden nature that has always held a captivating allure, stirring intense emotions and provoking a sense of intrigue. The dynamics of a workplace, where individuals spend a significant amount of time together, often result in the development of close relationships and connections.

Whether workplace relationships are a good idea or a bad one, depends on many different factors, including the individual involved, the workplace’s policies and procedures and whether there is a conflict of interest at play.

Manager and Team Member Relationship

Welcome Back! I remember a very dark time after returning back to work from maternity leave, and my boss could not be bothered dealing with my return-to-work plan, he outright told me that this wasn’t the role for me anymore and they were looking for someone who could commit more hours to the role. He wanted me gone. Of course, I knew at the time that if I had escalated this, it would’ve been my word against his and it would’ve been concluded that I was perhaps just in a sensitive state.

As I walked into the office Monday morning, I immediately sensed a change in atmosphere. The usual hustle and bustle seemed dampened, and an air of tension lingered in the room. Curiosity piqued, I made my way towards my desk, glancing around for any clues as to what might be happening. That’s when I noticed my boss, usually the epitome of professionalism, behaving rather distant and cold. He seemed preoccupied, cold and lost in his own thoughts. Something was definitely off.
